Synopsis: If the true story of housewife-turned-assassin Candy Montgomery sounds somehow familiar. The most recent attempt by prestige television to dramatize the horrific 1980 murder of Texas housewife Betty Gore is Love and Death; Jessica Biel’s Treats covered a similar story last year at this time. The series is based on the book “Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs” and a collection of Texas Monthly articles on the gruesome murder of Betty Gore. In contrast, Love and Death is somewhat unremarkable in that it is willing to descend into emotional chaos, but it is primarily David E. Kelly’s screenplay and Leslie Linka Glatter’s direction rest on the shoulders of a lead actor capable of capturing all the complexities. But it also rests on that, what made the real-life case so reprehensible was the sheer brutality of the crime and its circumstances.
