Synopsis: “White Men Can’t Jump” from writer/director Ron Shelton displays a certain mastery that this new version lacks. It subverts the stereotype, with more stereotypes surfaced by Billy Doyle, a white former college basketball great who, now saddled with a huge gambling debt, travels across the country to escape his creditors. Because blacks often underestimate white people’s basketball skills, while traveling with his girlfriend Gloria, they play pick-up basketball games, played by streetballer Sidney Dean, to earn some cash. Billy and Sidney soon form a hard-earned understanding, eventually competing in a two-man tournament that reveals each man’s true character.
